Bonita Real Estate & Homes for Sale in California

The family community of Bonita is nestled in Sweetwater Valley 15 miles southeast of downtown San Diego. Offering the best of both worlds, residents enjoy a quiet country lifestyle with big-city attractions nearby.

Bonita is located in picturesque, rolling foothills and offers a reminder of when Southern California was characterized by country highways and roadside fruit stands. With a population of almost 13,000 residents, there is a small-town feel here in Bonita. The earliest settlers were farmers who came to grow lemon trees in the latter part of the nineteenth century. Some trees dating back to that time still exist in scenic Sweetwater Regional Park, which offers views of San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, along with the rugged backcountry mountains to the east.

Watching people horseback riding over the valley's miles of winding trails, Bonita's humble beginnings don't seem that far away. Bonita Road showcases shops, restaurants and churches on one side and beautiful golf courses on the other. In September, the town holds its annual Bonita Fest, which lines Bonita Road with craft, game and food booths. The event is highlighted by a parade featuring marching bands, hometown entries and is capped off with an old-fashioned deep-pit barbecue at the nearby Optimist Center.

Students attend top-notch public schools in the Chula Vista Elementary School District and the Sweetwater Union High School District. The Bonita property market is diverse, with condominiums, townhouses and single-family homes.
